A Christmas Carol
Kazran Sardick: On every world, wherever people are, in the deepest part of the winter, at the exact mid-point, everybody stops and turns and hugs. As if to say, "Well done. Well done, everyone! We're halfway out of the dark." Back on Earth we call this Christmas. Or the Winter Solstice. On this world, the first settlers called it The Crystal Feast. You know what I call it? I call it expecting something for nothing!

The Doctor: Halfway out of the dark. (Quasi fuori da buio!)

The Doctor: Ah. Yes. Blimey. Sorry! Christmas Eve on a rooftop. Saw a chimney, my whole brain just went "What the hell!"

Kazran: I've never kissed anyone before. What do I do?
The Doctor: Well. Try and be all nervous and rubbish and a bit shaky.
Kazran: Why?
The Doctor: Because you're going to be like that anyway. Might as well make it part of the plan and then it'll feel on purpose. Off you go then.
Kazran: Now? I kiss her now?
The Doctor: Kazran, trust me. It's this or go into your room and design a new kind of screwdriver. Don't make my mistakes. Now! Go!

Sardick: All my life I've been called heartless. My other life—my real life. The one you rewrote. Now look at me.
The Doctor: Better a broken heart than no heart at all.

Abigail: We've had so many Christmas Eves, Kazran. I think it's time for Christmas Day.

Amy: It'll be their last day together, won't it?
The Doctor: Everything's got to end sometime. Otherwise nothing would ever get started.

River Song

River: You know when you see a photograph of someone you know, but it’s from years before you knew them. It’s like they’re not quite finished—they’re not done yet. Well… yes, The Doctor’s here. He came when I called just like he always does. But not “my” Doctor. Now my Doctor, I’ve seen whole armies turn and run away. And he’d just swagger off, back to his TARDIS. And open the doors with a snap of his fingers.
The Doctor. In the TARDIS. Next stop: Everywhere.
The Doctor: Spoilers. Nobody can open the TARDIS by snapping their fingers. It doesn’t work like that.
River: It does for the Doctor.
The Doctor: I am the Doctor.
River: Yeah. Someday.




(The Doctor wakes up to find himself handcuffed and River preparing to hook herself into the mainframe)
The Doctor: Oh no, no, no! Come on, what are you doing? That's my job!
Professor River Song: Oh, and I'm not allowed to have a career, I suppose?
The Doctor: Why am I handcuffed? Why do you even have handcuffs?
Professor River Song: (grinning) Spoilers.
The Doctor: This is not a joke. Stop this now! This is going to kill you! I'd have a chance, you don't have any!
Professor River Song: You wouldn't have a chance and neither do I! I'm timing it for the end of the countdown. There'll be a blip in the command flow. That way it should increase our chances of a clean download.
The Doctor: River, please, no!
Professor River Song: Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together, you knew I was coming here. The last time I saw you- the real you, the future you, I mean- you turned up on my doorstep with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Verilian to see the singing towers. What a night that was. The towers sang and you cried. You wouldn't tell me why, but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the Library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should have been a clue. There's nothing you can do.
The Doctor: You can let me do this!
Professor River Song: If you die here, it'll mean I've never met you!
The Doctor: Time can be rewritten.
Professor River Song: Not those times. Not one line. Don't you dare! It's OK. It's OK. It's not over for you. You'll see me again. You've got all of that to come. You and me, time and space. You watch us run.

5.01 The Eleventh Hour
The Doctor: It's a crack. And I'll tell you something funny. If you knock this wall down the crack would stay put 'cause the crack isn't in the wall.
Amelia: Where is it then?
The Doctor: Everywhere. And everything. It's a split in the skin of the world. Two parts of space and time that should never have touched.

The Doctor: Look.
Amy: Look where?
The Doctor: Exactly where you don't want to look. Where you never want to look. The corner of your eye. Look behind you.

The Doctor: Who's Amy? You were Amelia.
Amy: Yeah? And now I'm Amy.
The Doctor: Amelia Pond. That was a great name.
Amy: Bit fairy tale.

The Doctor: So what do you think?
Amy: What?
The Doctor: Other planets. Wanna check some out?
Amy: What does that mean?

Doctor: "The pandorica! Hehe Thats just a fairytale".

5.10 Vincent and the Doctor
Van Gogh: Well look around. Art. You know, it seems to me there's so much more to the world than the average eye's allowed to see. I believe, if you look hard, there are more wonders in this universe than you could ever have dreamed of.
The Doctor: You don't have to tell me.

The Doctor: Is this how time normally passes? Really slowly. In the right order.

Van Gogh: Hold my hand, Doctor. Try to see what I see. We're so lucky we're still alive to see this beautiful world. Look at the sky. It's not dark and black and without character. The black is in fact deep blue. And over there! Lights are blue. And blue in through the blueness, and the blackness, the winds swirling through the air... and then shining. Burning, bursting through! The stars, can you see how they roll their light? Everywhere we look, complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes.
The Doctor: I've seen many things, my friend. But you're right. Nothing's quite as wonderful as the things you see.

Amy: If we had got married our kids would have had very very red hair.
The Doctor: The ultimate ginger.
Amy: The ultimate ging. Brighter than sunflowers.

5.11 The Lodger
Craig: Has anyone ever told you that you're a bit weird?
The Doctor: They never really stop.

The Doctor: Now all I've got to do is pass as an ordinary human being. Simple. What could possibly go wrong.
Amy: Have you seen you?



5.12 The Pandorica Opens
Amy: What happens today?
The Doctor: Us.

Amy: Invasion of the Hot Italians.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster. Or a warrior. A nameless, terrible thing. Soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it or... reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: How did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River: I hate good wizards in fairy tales. They always turn out to be him.

The Doctor: Never ignore a coincidence. Unless you're busy. In which case always ignore a coincidence.

The Doctor: People fall out of the world sometimes but they always leave traces. Little things we can't quite account for. Faces in photographs. Luggage. Half-eaten meals. Rings. Nothing is ever forgotten, not completely. And if something can be remembered it can come back.

The Doctor: Remember that night you flew away with me?
Amy: Of course I do.
The Doctor: And you asked me why I was taking you and I told you there was no reason. I was lying.
Amy: What, so you did have a reason?
The Doctor: Your house.
Amy: My house.
The Doctor: It was too big. Too many empty rooms. Does it ever bother you, Amy, that your life doesn't make any sense?

The Doctor: Because you are. The Universe is big. It's vast and complicated and ridiculous. And sometimes—very rarely—impossible things just happen and we call them miracles. And that's the theory. 900 years, never seen one yet. But this would do me. Now get upstairs. She's Amy and she's surrounded by Romans. I'm not sure history could take it.

River: I'm sorry, my love.


5.13 The Big Bang
The Doctor: She'll be fine. Nothing can get into this box.
Rory: Well. You got in there.
The Doctor: Well there's only one of me. I counted.

River: Right then! I have questions. But number one is this: What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?
The Doctor: It's a fez. I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool.

Amy: But he was dead.
River: Who told you that?
Amy: He did.
River: Rule one: the Doctor lies.

The Doctor: Amy Pond. The Girl Who Waited. All night in your garden. Was it worth it?
Amy: Shut up. Of course it was.
The Doctor: You asked me why I was taking you with me and I said "No reason." I was lying.
Amy: It's not important.
The Doctor: Yeah. It's the most important thing left in the Universe. It's why I'm doing this. Amy, your house is too big. That big, empty house, just you.
Amy: And Aunt Sharon.
The Doctor: Where were mom and dad? Where was everybody who lived in that big house?
Amy: I lost my mom and dad.
The Doctor: How? What happened to them? Where did they go?
Amy: I— I don't...
The Doctor: It's okay, it's okay. Don't panic. It's not your fault.
Amy: I don't even remember.
The Doctor: There's a crack in time in the wall of your bedroom. And it's been eating away at your life for a long time now. Amy Pond. All alone. The Girl Who Didn't Make Sense. How could I resist?

Amy: How can I remember them if they never existed?
The Doctor: Because you're special. That crack in your wall, all that time. The universe pouring into your head. You brought Rory back. You can bring them back too. You just remember. They'll be there.
Amy: You won't.
The Doctor: You'll have your family back. You won't need your imaginary friend anymore.

The Doctor: Oh. Okay. I escaped then. Brilliant. Love it when I do that. Legs. Yes. Bow tie. Cool. {feels for his hat} I can buy a fez.

The Doctor: It's funny. I thought if you could hear me I could hang on somehow. Silly me. Silly old Doctor. When you wake up you'll have a mum and dad and you won't even remember me. Well, you'll remember me a little. I'll be a story in your head. But that 's OK. We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Cuz it was, you know. It was the best. The daft old man who stole a magic box and ran away. Did I ever tell you that I stole it? Well, I borrowed it. I was always going to take it back. Oh that box. Amy, you'll dream about that box. It'll never leave you. Big and little at the same time. Brand new and ancient. And the bluest... blue... ever. And the times we had, eh? Would've had. Never had. In your dreams, they'll still be there. The Doctor and Amy Pond. And the days that never came.... The cracks are closing. But they can't close properly until I'm on the other side. 6.01 The Impossible Astronaut
River Song: When I first met the Doctor, he knew all about me. Think about that. Impressionable young girl and suddenly this man drops out of the sky and he's clever and mad and wonderful and knows every last thing about her. Imagine what that does to a girl.

River Song: The Doctor's death doesn’t frighten me, nor does my own. There's a far worse day coming for me.

River Song: It's locked. How's a girl going to resist?


6.04 The Doctor’s Wife
The Doctor: Why am I a thief? What have I stolen?
Idris: Me. Are you going to steal me. You have stolen me. You are stealing me.

Rory: He'll be fine. He's a Time Lord.
Amy: It's just what they're called. It doesn't mean he actually knows what he's doing.

Idris: Yes, that's me. A type 40 TARDIS. I was already a museum piece when you were young. And the first time you touched my console, you said...
The Doctor: I said you were the most beautiful thing I'd ever known.
Idris: Then you stole me. And I stole you.
The Doctor: I borrowed you.
Idris: Borrowing implies the eventual intention to return the thing that was taken. What makes you think I would ever give you back?
The Doctor: You're the TARDIS.
Idris: Yes.
The Doctor: My TARDIS?

Idris: Are all people like this?
The Doctor: Like what?

Idris: Your front doors? Have you any idea how childish that sounds?

Idris: Do you ever wonder why I chose you all those years ago?
The Doctor: I chose you. You were unlocked.
Idris: Of course I was. I wanted to see the Universe so I stole a Time Lord and I ran away. And you were the only one mad enough.

The Doctor: I've got nothing.
Idris: Oh my beautiful idiot. You have what you've always had. You've got me.

Amy: Crimson. Eleven. Delight. The smell of dust after rain.

The Doctor: She's a woman. And she's the TARDIS.
Amy: Did you wish really hard?
The Doctor: Shut up! Not like that.
Idris: Hello. I'm Sexy.
The Doctor: Oh! Still shut up.

The House: Fear me. I've killed hundreds of Time Lords.
The Doctor: Fear me. I've killed all of them.

Idris: Doctor. Are you there? It's so very dark in here.
The Doctor: I'm here. Hey.
Idris: I've been looking for a word. A big, complicated word, but so sad. I found it now.
The Doctor: What word?
Idris: "Alive." I'm alive.
The Doctor: Alive isn't sad.

Idris: There's something I didn't get to say to you.
The Doctor: Goodbye.
Idris: No. I just wanted to say, Hello. Hello Doctor. It's so very very nice to meet you.
The Doctor: Please. I don't want you to.
Idris: I love you.

The Doctor: What did she say?
Rory: "The only water in the forest is the river." She said we'd need to know that someday. It doesn't make sense, does it?
The Doctor: Not yet.

Amy: Look at you pair. It's always you and her isn't it? Long after the rest of us have gone. A boy and his box off to see the universe.
The Doctor: Well you say that as if it's a bad thing. But honestly it's the best thing there is.



6.07 A Good Man Goes to War
Amy: I wish I could tell you that you'll be loved. That you'll be safe and cared for and protected. But this isn't the time for lies. What you are going to be, Melody, is very very brave.


Madame Kovarian: The anger of a good man is not a problem. Good men have too many rules.
The Doctor: Good men don't need rules.

The Doctor: Hello! Hello, ah... baby.
Amy: Melody.
The Doctor: Melody! Hello Melody Pond.
Rory: Melody Williams.
Amy: Is a geography teacher. Melody Pond is a super hero.

Amy: Okay, what are you doing?

6.08 Let's Kill Hitler
Mels: You've got a time machine. I've got a gun. What the hell. Let's kill Hitler.

River Song: Catch you later, time boy.

Amy: That's Melody.
Rory: That's River Song.
River: Who's River Song?
The Doctor: Spoilers.

River: It was never going to be a gun for you, Doctor. The man of peace. Who understands every kind of warfare except perhaps the cruelest. Kiss kiss.

Nazi officer: What are you doing here?
Melody: Well, I was on my way to this gay gypsy Bar Mitzvah for the disabled, when I suddenly thought, "Gosh, the Third Reich's a bit rubbish. I think I'll kill the Führer." Who's with me?

Professor Candy: So then. Tell me, why do you want to study archaeology?
River: Well to be perfectly honest, Professor. I'm looking for a good man.

6.10 The Girl Who Waited

Amy: You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful — and then you actually talk with them, and five minutes later they're as dull as a brick. But then there's other people, and you meet them and you think: "Not bad, they're okay," and then you get to know them, and their face sort of becomes them, like their personality's written all over it; and they just — and they turn into something so beautiful. [Simultaneously, with Older Amy] Rory is the most beautiful man I've ever met.

6.11 The God Complex

The Doctor: OK, this is bad. At the moment I don’t know how bad, but certainly we're three buses, a long walk, and eight quid in a taxi from good.

6.12 Closing Time
The Doctor: Stop crying. You've got a lot to look forward to, you know. A normal human life on Earth. Mortgage repayments. The nine-to-five. A persistent, nagging sense of spiritual emptiness. Save the tears for later, boy-o. Oh, that was crabby. That was old. But I am old, Stormy. I am so old. So near the end.

The Doctor: You could be anything. {Alfie gurgles} Yes, I know. You could walk amongst the stars. They don't actually look like that you know. They're a lot more impressive.

The Doctor: You know when I was little like you I dreamt of the stars. Yeah. I think it's fair to say, in the language of your age, that I lived my dream. I owned the stage. Gave it a hundred and ten percent. I hope you have as much fun as I did, Alfie.
